Professional
I am a designer, generally leaning toward interaction design. There is a fine definition of interaction design at Wikipedia.
I currently manage design for Yahoo's Personalization and Vertical Search teams.
I started out as a frontline customer service representative for a new thing called the web at Delphi Internet, and later Pacific Bell Internet. Listening hour after hour to smart people being thwarted from simple tasks by dumb computers gave me the motivation to fix the bad things and help to prevent them from hurting innocent people again.
A partial list of other companies for which I've designed:
- Digitas/Modem Media (view site) as a consultant designing for Safeway, Microsoft, Sephora, and Hewlett-Packard.
- Planetout Partners, Inc. (aka Gay.com, PlanetOut.com, KLEPTOMANIAC.com, and OUT&ABOUT.com) (view site · view portfolio)
- InterMap Systems (view site · view portfolio)
- eTranslate.com (view site · view portfolio)
- Musicbank.com (view portfolio).
- Netscape Communications and America Online (view site · view portfolio)
It's easy to make things difficult, but it's difficult to make things easy—if you managed to open a door successfully today, hug your local designer... or at least buy them a cocktail.
